I wanted to choose a college that felt like home but also felt like something new to experience. Lees-McRae had both. They also offered me the ability to continue running track in college but also allowed me to move somewhere I have always wanted to live, the mountains.
My most memorable experience while being at Lees-McRae has to be when we got snowed in for almost a week last year. A lot of my teammates and I enjoyed being out in the snow and playing around for hours on end. Being from Texas we do not get snow near as much as here in the mountains so this was something new and fun to experience with friends.
My advice to students choosing a college is to choose somewhere you could see yourself for the next four years. Do not choose a college just because they have a good basketball team, choose a college because they have the ability to satisfy your education needs. Also, choose somewhere that you are able to see yourself having a life outside of school. Your education is important, but you will not being doing homework 24/7. So choose somewhere with a community you see yourself enjoying and getting involved in.
Most of my favorite things to do in the area have to be with being outdoors. There are tons of different hikes in and around campus that I have enjoyed trying out. Also near campus are two ski mountains that I had fun trying out last year, and will be again this year with friends.
